Light in a Dark World

Light Part 1

October 21, 2023

Light is a topic taught in science starting in kindergarten. Light is the absence of dark, and dark is the absence of light. In art class, you learn white is the absence of color and black is the presence of all colors mixed. You also know how plants must have light to live.

Light is necessary for life.

The leaves on a tree, or any plant, are green because of light. Plants contain chlorophyll, a pigment that absorbs light from the sun and, through photosynthesis, turns it into food. Chlorophyll also absorbs the light and gives the plants their green color. When the seasons change and the sun moves, there is less light for the plants to absorb. The leaves on deciduous trees change colors when the seasons change. Yes, it’s beautiful when they change colors. But then they fall off the trees and die. It’s their 15 minutes of fame.

Like those trees, we need the Light of the Son to live. John 8:12 says, “I am the light of the world. He who follows me shall not walk in darkness but have the light of life. If we have Jesus, we have everlasting light of life. Even when the darkness comes, we will be protected. “Yea though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for though art with me.” (Psalms 23:4).

Evergreens, unlike deciduous trees, stay green. If we believe in Jesus, we won’t change our colors. And if we remain in Jesus, He will remain in us (John 15:4) and be green forever.

John 8:12: “Jesus spoke to them again, I am the Light of the World. Anyone who follows me will never walk in the darkness but will have the Light of Life.
