My Story

Who Am I?

I am a teacher, an artist, a writer, a singer, an actor/storyteller, a firefighter, and a marketer. I am that person that never knew what they wanted to be when they grew up.

Well, that's not entirely true. I always wanted to be an artist. In 7th grade, I was accepted into the art program at my high school. Only a few students were allowed to take art in 7th grade. By my senior year, I had advanced to independent study and was allowed to go to a local elementary school and teach art to two 3rd-grade classes. I was accepted into the art program at UAB and got an associate's degree in Marketing, and that is just what I did.

I began working as the Assistant to the President of a marketing firm and oversaw the entire marketing process for the firm. I moved to another firm, another firm, and an engineering firm. As a Marketing Director/VP of Marketing, I wrote many articles published in regional publications. I also established and maintained a computer data management system, designed, wrote, edited, and produced newsletters and other marketing materials, prepared proposals, and was responsible for monitoring accounts and reconciliation of budget and billing systems.

After 12 years of work, I quit and stayed home with my daughters. But I couldn't stay home. I was at the school volunteering and soon began to substitute teach. Within two years, I enrolled again at UAB, working on my Masters in Early Childhood Education/ Elementary Ed.

I have experience teaching at the Jefferson County school district's second-, third-, fourth-, and fifth-grade levels. I have taught art in the Jefferson County School district and at the Boys and Girls Club Central Alabama, John Williamson location. Currently, I am transitioning to another career move, waiting for God's direction. I have worked as a professional storyteller, public relations/marketing manager, and professional development presenter. I worked with the Birmingham International Festival's Board of Directors on their educational committee, writing lesson plans for their teacher's guide for four years and presenting professional development at their teachers' conferences. I was the recipient of the BIF's Mini-Festival Grant for four years, where I created lessons for the teachers throughout all grades at my schools and art and core curricula to be presented during the festival week.

As a professional development presenter, I developed and presented several different presentations, from "Art Across the Curriculum" and "Promethean All Day Long" to "Bringing History and Literature to Life with Roll Play and Dramatization," to name just a few. I have presented for Jefferson County, The Louisiana Reader's Association, The Mid-South Reading and Writing Conference, and The Birmingham International Festival (BIF).

I am excited to announce that I have embarked on a new phase in my life. I am now a published author. I have published two children's books. Please check them out on Amazon.

I look forward to hearing your thoughts.
