Are You Satisfied?

We all have needs, but sometimes we forget that our wants are not needs. According to our second-grade science class, our five basic needs are water, air, food, shelter, and clothing. These are our needs. Everything else, the steak, the mansion, the nice car, and the three closets full of clothes, are all wants.

God tells us that He will provide for us. In 2 Corinthians 9:8, He says we will always have everything we need. But we always want more.

I have been blessed to have my needs met. But I have to admit that there have been times in my life that I have wondered if we would have enough. A company I worked at closed my department, leaving me without a job. To top it off, we were building a new house. I was concerned. My husband, though, was so calm. Don’t worry, he would tell me; I have it covered. And he did. God provided by giving me a husband who was faithful and knew always to be prepared.

There have still been times when I worried about a big bill coming. How were we going to cover it? But like Abraham (Gen 22), I believed God would somehow provide. And sure enough, He provided above and beyond. God can make every grace overflow to you so that you always have everything you need (not want) so you may excel in every good work. (2 Cor 9:8)

I still get nervous when I look at my situation and wonder how it will work out. But I know God is in control. If He knows the number of hairs on my head, He will know my needs and provide. The birds don’t worry, so why should I? (Mat 10:29-31)

So, keep your lives free from the love of money (and earthly things) and be content with what you have because God has said, “Never will I leave you, never will I forsake you” (Heb 13:5).

And he hasn’t. So are you safisfied?
